MONTREAL, Jan. 27 /CNW Telbec/ - Bell Canada, Bombardier Aerospace and Yellow Pages Group have joined The Carpooling Network in an effort to help their employees benefit from an alternative means of transportation that is simpler and more efficient than single-occupancy vehicle trips.
The carpooling program is being offered to some 20,000 people working for the abovementioned companies. The program provides them with, among other things, access to a high-performance, user-friendly online software to help them find carpooling partners for their commuting. The recent membership of these companies, added to the many partnerships concluded since 2005, have enabled The Carpooling Network to become one of the industry's leading carpooling facilitators in Canada.
The Carpooling Network's program allows Bell Canada to promote the carpooling option with the thousands of Bell employees working in its three main Montreal installations, including its national headquarters on Nun's Island. Use of The Carpooling Network also meets the sustainable transportation criteria of the LEED-certified Nuns' Island campus. As explained by Daniel Gagné, Bell's Director, Corporate Responsibility and Environment: "Carpooling is a sustainable transportation solution that is greatly appreciated by Bell team members and it also reduces our impact on climate change." In fact, for the past three years, Bell has been recognized as a Climate Disclosure Leader by the Carbon Disclosure Project and the Conference Board of Canada. As the first telecom company in Canada certified to the ISO 14001 environmental standard, Bell is proud of its exemplary practices in terms of environmental management and reducing the effects of greenhouse gases.
A true pioneer, Bombardier Aerospace has been promoting carpooling as well as active and public transportation with its 13,000 Montreal area employees for the past 10 years now. "We are firmly committed to reducing the environmental footprint of our operations and our products and we encourage our employees to contribute to this effort," mentioned Carol Gagnon, Director of Industrial Security with Bombardier Aerospace. He then added "The Carpooling Network's software is the perfect solution to generate our employee's increasing interest in adopting a responsible travel approach."
Yellow Pages Groups
Yellow Pages Group recently inaugurated a nation-wide carpooling program in several of its offices, which includes preferred parking spaces for its 800 employees working at the Nun's Island location. "This initiative is but one of the multiple environmental projects that Yellow Pages Group implemented this year to integrate sustainable development to its business practices. Many of our employees have already adopted sustainable transportation habits, preferring to ride their bikes to work or take public transit," mentioned Annie Marsolais, Director, Corporate Communications and Marketing. She further stated, "Our partnership with The Carpooling Network demonstrates our determination to be an employer of choice, soundly committed to the environment."
