OTTAWA, Dec. 21, 2012 /CNW/ - The Honourable Denis Lebel, Minister of
Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the
appointments of Mr. Stephen Mallory and Ms. Hind Sergieh to the board
of VIA Rail Canada Inc. for a term of three years.
"I am very pleased that Mr. Mallory and Ms. Sergieh have accepted these
positions," said Minister Lebel. "VIA will greatly benefit from their
respective expertise in risk management and business development."
Mr. Mallory is the founder, CEO and President of Directors Global, an
enterprise risk management advisory firm and commercial insurance
brokerage. He has spent the last 30 years in the risk and insurance
industry, and has held executive management positions with two of
Canada's largest insurance brokerages. Since 2008, Mr. Mallory was a
member of the board of directors of the Standards Council of Canada,
where he assists the board with its risk oversight responsibility. In
November 2011, he was asked to sit on the CSA Canadian Risk Management
Mirror Committee (CAC-ISO-TC262), a technical and advisory committee
devoted to advising Canadians on risk standards. Mr. Mallory holds a
Bachelor of Arts from the University of Western Ontario, a Canadian
Risk Management (CRM) designation, and is a Fellow, Chartered Insurance
Ms. Sergieh is the founder and President of "Groupe Sergieh," a market
research consultancy firm specialising in the Arabian Gulf region. She
has held a number of leadership positions in international firms, and
worked in project management, recruitment, and business strategies and
development. Since 2006, she has served on the board of directors of
the "Office de la protection du consommateur," an organisation that informs, educates, and receives consumers'
complaints, and contributed to the development of the "Association des femmes en finance du Québec," from 2003 to 2005. Ms. Sergieh holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in
administration, specialising in finance, and also has a certificate in
marketing from McGill University.
VIA Rail Canada Inc., a Crown corporation, was created in 1977 and
operates Canada's national passenger rail service. The board of
directors is responsible for overseeing the business activities and
other affairs of the corporation.
