An historic figure, recognized as such during her lifetime, Vera Danyluk
passes away and leaves in mourning a municipality that she deeply marked
MOUNT ROYAL, QC, Oct. 14 /CNW Telbec/ - It is with great sadness that Town of Mount Royal has learned of the death of Vera Danyluk, a prominent politician but, more importantly, a warm and profoundly human individual who touched the hearts of all who had the good fortune to know her.
It is not surprising that, as the four-term mayor of Mount Royal, Vera Danyluk always knew the right word to say and the right action to take or that she always lent an attentive ear to thousands of residents, colleagues and associates over the years. Today, all of them join in acknowledging her exceptional presence and strength of character, outstanding qualities that Mrs. Danyluk demonstrated throughout her long and distinguished career.
The announcement of her death casts a pall over Mount Royal's Town Hall, where mayor Philippe Roy, the councillors and administrative staff are coming to terms with the loss of not only a great figure but also, in many cases, a friend.
In addition to her duties as a local elected official, Mrs. Danyluk served as chairperson of the Montreal Urban Community (MUC) and was involved in dozens of organizations, commissions, boards and committees at various levels. She also had an abiding interest in, among other things, public security, urban development and preventing family violence. There can be no doubt that the impact of her departure is being felt far beyond Mount Royal's borders or that it has saddened people from every walk of life.
After successfully leading countless local issues and causes, including the Town's reconstitution in 2006, and standing out as a strong supporter of seniors, Mrs. Danyluk focused on Mount Royal's cultural development in recent years.
The Town extends its condolences to the family, which has expressed a desire to grieve privately but plans to issue its own news release regarding the eventual holding of a public ceremony.
