AJAX, ON, Jan. 20 /CNW/ - A major new expansion of the Ontario Lottery & Gaming Corporation's Slots at Ajax Downs was officially opened today.
The new gaming floor introduces 550 new machines to the facility, more than doubling the original number of 250. Following renovations now underway to the original gaming area, a total of 800 machines will be on site at Ajax Downs in early spring 2010.
Other improved player amenities include a parking lot shuttle service, a new patron patio, two additional self-serve areas for patrons, and a redesigned lottery area and coat check.
"This is an exciting day for OLG and for Ajax and Durham Region," said Larry Flynn, Senior Vice President Gaming. "We've hired 66 new employees to staff the new, expanded facility - representing about an additional $2 million in direct payroll and benefits coming back to the community."
"This expansion means more jobs for Ajax-Pickering residents thanks to the Ontario Government's funding," said Ajax-Pickering MPP Joe Dickson. "Moving ahead with this expansion ensures on-going revenue to the Town of Ajax, which is welcome news for taxpayers in our community."
Mayor Steve Parish was delighted about the opening of the new gaming floor in Ajax. "The additional jobs and revenue are welcome economic benefits in this community and we look forward to continuing our great working relationship with OLG in the coming years."
