Agriculture Manufacturers Discuss TPP with Canada's Parliamentary Secretary of Trade Minister and Set Tone for Federal Budget

REGINA, Jan. 21, 2016 /CNW/ - Leah Olson, President of the Agricultural Manufacturers of Canada (AMC), participated in a constructive roundtable discussion regarding the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) with the Parliamentary Secretary for International Trade, David Lametti.

The meeting in Regina was part of a series of national consultations. Olson welcomed the discussion, which explored issues that are important to short line agricultural equipment manufacturers and their success here at home and on the global stage.

At the meeting, Olson stated the TPP holds a great deal of potential for farmers and agricultural equipment manufacturers alike.  She also lauded the Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP).

"The TPP provides a unique opportunity for the agriculture industry and we are keen to have it ratified." Olson said. "Our members' products are leading edge and they compete with the best on the world market.  We welcome the recent CanExport announcement by Minister Chrystia Freeland, which helps to strengthen the short line industry across Canada. We also welcome any ongoing support for the IRAP in or outside budget 2016."

Olson also highlighted the need for Government to continue supporting the agricultural manufacturing sector through a strong Scientific Research and Experimental Development program (SR&ED) and the IRAP. Both programs are driving innovation in the agricultural sector.

AMC members will be active in several outreach events over the coming months, including a strong presence at the London Farm Show on Wednesday, March 2 and its 46th Annual Convention and Trade Show from November 30 to December 2 in Calgary, Alberta.
