OTTAWA, Oct. 1 /CNW Telbec/ - Assembly of First Nations National Chief Shawn Atleo today congratulated Jody Wilson-Raybould on her election as the new AFN Regional Chief for British Columbia.
"On behalf of myself and the entire AFN Executive, I extend my sincere congratulations to Regional Chief Jody Wilson-Raybould on her victory," National Chief Atleo said. "I know her as a proud citizen of the We Wai Kai Nation and have had the honour of working with her many times in the past. I want also to thank all the candidates who campaigned hard for this important position, and for the First Nations citizens and leaders who showed their dedication to their people by coming out to participate in this important election."
The AFN BC Regional Chief will represent the concerns and priorities of the 203 First Nations in British Columbia and will act as the AFN's representative in that region. The position has been vacant since the election of National Chief Shawn Atleo, the former Regional Chief for BC.
"First Nations are working to give life to our rights, to build our economies and our nations," the National Chief stated. "It is an active agenda and Regional Chief Wilson-Raybould has the energy, enthusiasm and ideas that will help move us forward."
The Assembly of First Nations is the national organization representing First Nations citizens in Canada.
