AFN National Chief Atleo congratulates Guy Lonechild upon his election as
chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations.

OTTAWA, Oct. 30 /CNW Telbec/ - Guy Lonechild was elected chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations yesterday in a third-ballot victory.

"Chief Guy Lonechild served as a vice-chief for 9 years. He is very committed to the promotion and protection of treaty rights. As well he is knowledgeable about economic development, and has championed children's issues, and has been a strong voice in advocating for equity in the child welfare system, "said National Chief Shawn Atleo. "Chief Lonechild has excellent leadership skills and I look forward to working closely with him as an individual and as a member of the executive team."

The Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations represents 74 First Nations in Saskatchewan.

The Assembly of First Nations is the national organization representing First Nations citizens in Canada.
