Four "Star Researchers" shine brightly at the Rendez-vous du Savoir event
MONTREAL, Nov. 12, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - On November 15, at the
Recognition Award Gala held at the Palais des congrès de Montréal,
four "Star Researchers" will be honoured at the finale of the
competition to showcase Quebec research talent, Ça mérite d'être reconnu! The competition and the tribute evening are held as part of the Rendez-vous du Savoir event, presented by Mouvement Desjardins in association with Raymond
Chabot Grant Thornton and CGI.
Presented for the third year in a row, this award highlights the talent
and originality of the next generation of researchers, and the
significant impact research has on our society. The winners will
receive an honorary plaque during the Recognition Award Gala. For the
first time, the recognition will be accompanied by an individual
scholarship of $1,500 offered by Tourisme Montréal, enabling the
recipients to make their innovative work known at the international
The names of the 2012 Ça mérite d'être reconnu! competition winners are as follows:
Human and Social Sciences, Arts and Literature Category
Magaly Brodeur, PhD candidate
Université de Montréal
Her work on ethics in the public sector, government and business is
intended to focus public policy on such issues as how to deal with
products that pose a potential health risk.
Natural Sciences and Engineering Category (two recipients)
Vincent Duchaine, PhD, Professor
Department of Automated Production Engineering
École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS)
His research is intended to improve the synergy between humans and
robots during assisted surgery for disabled people or in manufacturing
Martin-Hugues St-Laurent, PhD, Professor of Animal Ecology
Department of Biology, Chemistry and Geography
Groupe de recherche BORÉAS & Centre d'études nordiques
Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR)
His work in animal ecology is intended to improve our understanding of
how large mammals, such as the black bear, woodland caribou and grey
wolf, adapt to natural and human disturbances.
Marie-France Marin, PhD candidate
Université de Montréal
Her work deals with the affect stress hormones have on negative
memories. Her research will certainly be of great help to people
suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

the visibility provided by the Rendez-vous du Savoir will be a strong impetus for their current and future work," stated Dr.

The call for nominations went out to all universities and their research
centres last spring from the Conference of Rectors and Principals
of Québec Universities (CREPUQ). In all, 63 outstanding projects from
14 institutions were reviewed by a selection committee headed by Dr.
Rémi Quirion, Chief Scientist of Québec, and consisting of
representatives from the scientific, university and business
