2010 Olympic Security - Meeting the Threat

VANCOUVER, Jan. 20 /CNW/ - Terrorism, targeted violence, threats, sabotage, organized acts of civil disobedience and disruption, internal theft, insecurity. What is likely to happen when the world comes to the 2010 Winter Games, and what has been done to mitigate risks?

"While there are concerns about targeted attacks - both violent and civil disturbance - during the upcoming 2010 Winter Games, our clients are focused on overall human security, orderly conduct of business, and protecting their brand from risk," says Robert Burns, President of Canpro Global. "Several major 2010 sponsors began working with us as much as a year or more ago to establish comprehensive measures to mitigate risks to persons and assets," he went to on to say.

According to Mark LaLonde, the Canpro Global senior manager assigned to 2010 intelligence and media relations, "It is our experience in large scale threat assessment and risk management projects with global firms that has enabled us to become the largest risk management and security consulting firm in Canada. For the 2010 Winter Games, we have been asked to secure a number of high profile sites and client operations, including major sponsors and have prepared appropriate and safe responses to a number of possible threats."

To mitigate risks, Canpro has brought in an additional two hundred-fifty personnel to provide higher-end security services to corporate sponsors of the 2010 Winter Games. This includes threat assessment and management experts, close protection operatives, security drivers, and counter terrorism experts.
