TORONTO, Sept. 29 /CNW/ - 01 Communique Laboratory Inc. (TSX:ONE) today announced that it has filed a patent application for its secure email attachment and retrieval technology. This technology provides a system and method for securely accessing a networked computer from a remote access terminal and a connection key. The system is configured to allow maximum authentication. In addition, the connection key can be configured to automate communication requests and authentication processes without any user interaction.
"This innovative technology overcomes the major security issues associated with accessing and/or sharing confidential files. A typical example is inadvertently sending an email with a confidential attachment to a wrong recipient or even if it is the correct recipient the question still becomes, how do I ensure the physical control of the file with its confidential information when the file has physically left my control," said Andrew Cheung President and CEO of 01 Communique. "The answer to this question is simple. With our technology, the recipient will not be able to access the file unless they are logically and physically authenticated. This cannot be compromised as the file remains behind your corporate firewall on your corporate network with access restricted to only those that you allow access."
"We are very excited about the prospects of this new and innovative technology that, combined with our SecurePC Remote Access Terminals and our SecureKEY, provides organizations with a comprehensive information security solution for preventing data breaches," said Jacob Katz, Director of Marketing for 01 Communique. "Companies that are looking to keep control over their confidential information (files) will find our offering extremely useful. Now they do not have to send that confidential file as an attachment or upload it to a FTP site outside their control. Instead, by using our Secure Email Attachment technology, the company is able to send a link to the recipient whereby only the physically authenticated recipient can access the attachment. This alleviates all security concerns associated with sharing highly confidential information or for that matter sending it to a wrong email recipient. We are incorporating this technology in our I'm InTouch suite of products and anticipate it will be available for release in the near future."
About the Technology
Security breaches are a major concern with traditional remote access systems. For example, when someone inadvertently loses a corporate laptop, confidential information stored on the laptop, such as client lists, may be compromised. Configuration files stored on the laptop, e.g. login and passwords, may be misappropriated the same way. When a third party subsequently uses the stolen login and password to remotely access the traveler's corporate computer account, sensitive company information stored on corporate computers is further at risk of exposure.
The Internet also allows for the creation of e-mail and the sharing of files through e-mail. Because of the risks inherent with receiving certain types of attachments, e.g., executable (.exe) files, many e-mail programs employ virus protection that blocks receipt of such files. Many e-mail programs also impose other limitations on email attachments such as size limitations.
The current products available today, such as FTP servers, require the user to first upload the attachment file to another location and then provide a link to the file in the email body so the email recipient is able to click on the link to retrieve the file at that location. However, such products do not provide a link that points directly to the original file with retrieval restriction and/or recipient physical authentication with no need to first upload the file to another location.
Our technology provides for improved security features by restricting remote access only to intended users, and allows the intended users to remotely and securely access, control and manage data. It is also allows for the sharing of files without concern for size limitations.
