TORONTO, Oct. 22, 2013 /CNW/ - WineAlign, Canada's largest online wine site, has published the results of the 2013 World Wine Awards of Canada - a competition that points consumers to great wine buys by variety, by price and by country. The results are available online at WineAlign.com/Awards.
The World Wine Awards of Canada were judged in Toronto in early September by twelve core WineAlign critics from across Canada and six professional Toronto-based wine writers and sommeliers. The team spent five days blind tasting 1,000 wines, of which an estimated 300 were selected to advance to a second round of tasting by the core judges.
The top selections went on to make one of the following lists: Category Champion; Best of Country; 25 Top Value Wines; Judges' Choice; Best of Variety Under $15; Best of Variety $15 to $25; and, Best of Variety $25 to $50. The results are available on WineAlign, along with individual ratings and reviews from critics.
"Value is such a key component to purchasing decisions that we wanted to make sure consumers were being led to wines that deliver value at all costs," says David Lawrason, co-head judge and WineAlign principal critic. "We put a $50 upper limit on the price of the entries to send a message that value can be found in a variety of price ranges."
