Toronto Cultural Hotspot weekend and cultural loops guide

TORONTO, Sept. 13, 2014 /CNW/ - The City councillor for Toronto's Ward 44 Scarborough East today unveiled the Creekside-Eastern Gateway Mural, joined by the mural's artists and community youth participants.

The mural is one of more than 20 Cultural Hotspot signature projects. The projects were established to encourage artistic collaborations with arts organizations and artists already active in the community.

The mural at 277 Old Kingston Rd. is a permanent public art work welcoming visitors as they enter Scarborough. The nature-themed design celebrates the flora and fauna for which the area is well known. More information is available at http://www.muralroutes.ca.

The mural's creation and unveiling is one of 11 Cultural Hotspot events, exhibitions, tours and talks occurring over the weekend. A complete list of the weekend's events is available at http://www.culturalhotspot.ca/media/assets/HotspotLoopAnimation.pdf.

The Cultural Hotspot also launched its Cultural Loops tour program today. The series of three self-guided tours encourages residents and visitors to explore the Cultural Hotspot neighbourhoods, providing insight and information on the art, culture, architecture, history, parklands and small businesses in each loop area. The guide can be viewed and downloaded at http://www.culturalhotspot.ca/media/assets/CulturalLoopsGuideEdited.pdf.

From May through October, the Cultural Hotspot program shines a spotlight on the arts, culture and community in south Scarborough. This City- and partner-produced initiative features a series of signature projects designed to inspire residents and visitors to discover the Hotspot neighbourhoods.
