Countdown is on to February 29, 2012 showcase event

MISSISSAUGA, ON, Jan. 11, 2012 /CNW/ - Walmart Canada President and CEO Shelley Broader today announced the CEO panel that will judge the Walmart Green Student Challenge.

The panel, who will judge the five semi-finalist submissions in-person at the TMX Broadcast Centre in Toronto on February 29, 2012, are:

  • Shelley Broader, President and CEO, Walmart Canada
  • John Guarino, President, Coca-Cola Refreshments Canada
  • John LeBoutillier, President, Unilever Canada
  • Michael McCain, President and CEO, Maple Leaf Foods
  • Peter Robinson, CEO, The David Suzuki Foundation

"The calibre of this panel of Canadian leaders speaks to the critical importance of driving the business case for sustainability," said Broader. "Sustainability makes good business sense and we are eager to see what the next generation of leaders has in store."

The Walmart Green Student Challenge is encouraging the next generation of leaders to develop proposals that are good for the environment and for business for a chance to win a portion of $100,000. Submissions will be judged on three criteria: ease of implementation, originality, and potential economic, social and environmental benefits.

Five semi-finalists will present to and be questioned by the CEO panel as part of the final round of judging at the TMX Broadcast Centre in Toronto on February 29, 2012.

"Holding this event in the financial district will expose the students to the heart of Canada's capital markets, while demonstrating that Canadian business needs to be focused more than ever on sustainability," said Broader. "We are looking forward to seeing even more creative, realistic and simple solutions that will change the world."
