Holiday Train celebrates 15 years of fundraising for Hamilton Food Share
HAMILTON, ON, Nov. 12, 2013 /CNW/ - Tom Cochrane with Red Rider will be
joined by Great Big Sea and Natalie MacMaster to headline a free
concert when the Canadian Pacific (CP) Holiday Train makes its annual
stop at Gage Park in Hamilton on Saturday, November 30, 2013.
"I am very proud to be involved with CP's holiday initiative to fight
hunger across Canada and the United States. CP and their trains are as
much of our cultural landscape and identity as any iconic image I can
think of and my hat is off to them for this big and kind-hearted
gesture to the Canadian and American people. These will be great shows
and a great ride," said Cochrane.
This Holiday Train signature event, in support of the Hamilton Food
Share, will be hosted by Peter Mansbridge and kicks-off with the
opening of the North Pole Station at 4:00 p.m. followed by the concert,
which begins at 5:00 p.m.
The North Pole Station, a magical village, will feature family-oriented
interactive activities, including ice carving, hot chocolate and a
chance for the kids to visit Santa before making their way to the
While the event is free, those attending are asked to make a donation or
bring non-perishable food items. Everything collected at each show
stays in the community for local distribution.
"Hamilton Food Share is thrilled and honoured to celebrate the CP
Holiday Train's 15th anniversary! This spectacular event embraces the
true meaning of Christmas, since it raises much needed food and
awareness," stated Joanne Santucci, Hamilton Food Share's Executive
Director. "This will go a long way in helping to feed the more than
17,000 people who rely on a food bank every month in our community."
The Hamilton stop is part of CP's 2013 Holiday Train program, which runs
from November 25 until December 19, and features two brightly decorated
trains travelling across Canada and the United States. Since 1999, the
Holiday Train has raised about $7.4 million and about 3 million pounds
of food for North American food shelves.
This extra-special Holiday Train event is one of only three stops across
North America where Canadian Pacific has added additional star-power to
help shine a spotlight on the railways mission of raising food, money
and awareness in the fight against hunger. Similar events will be held
in Calgary, Alberta on December 7 and in Cottage Grove, Minnesota on
