The Transportation Safety Board of Canada Releases Investigation Report into the May 2010 Risk of Collision at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport

GATINEAU, QC, Feb. 2, 2012 /CNW/ - The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) today released its investigation report (A10O0089) into the risk of collision that occurred in May 2010, at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.

The report is available on the TSB website at www.bst-tsb.gc.ca.

Porter Airlines Inc. Flight 406 was on an instrument flight rules (IFR) flight to the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. Southeast of the airport, the flight was cleared for a visual approach to Runway 08. Another Porter Airlines Inc. flight, Flight 249, was departing Runway 08 on an IFR flight eastbound with a clearance to depart under visual flight rules. At approximately 0839 Eastern Daylight Time, about 6 nautical miles southeast of the airport, both aircraft responded to resolution advisories from their respective traffic collision-avoidance systems. The aircraft crossed paths separated by approximately 300 feet vertically.

The TSB is an independent agency that investigates marine, pipeline, railway and aviation transportation occurrences. Its sole aim is the advancement of transportation safety. It is not the function of the Board to assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability.
