Taste Festivals North American debut features 17 top Toronto restaurants, including recent additions Momofuku, Splendido, Hudson Kitchen and Valdez
TORONTO, June 12, 2014 /CNW/ - With just over a month until the international food festival's arrival at Fort York, Taste of Toronto today announced the final 2014 lineup of chefs and restaurants invited to participate in the inaugural event. New additions Splendido, Hudson Kitchen, Valdez and Momofuku Noodle Bar are among the 17 top Toronto restaurants to be featured at the national historic site July 24 to 27.
Taste of Toronto also announced today that Momofuku will be featured in festival programming in many different capacities. Chef and owner David Chang hosts a talk and book signing on opening night (July 24), alongside Peter Meehan, author of the bestselling Momofuku magazine Lucky Peach. At the Thursday evening session, Momofuku Noodle Bar executive chef Sam Gelman offers three unique dishes for guests. Momofuku Milk Bar founder Christina Tosi is onsite over the course of the weekend hosting a stand full of signature baked goods in the marketplace.

A chance to tour the best of Toronto's diverse cuisine, each of the participating restaurants are designing three signature small plates which allows visitors the chance to experience a tasting menu from some of the city's best restaurants. Start with a smoked duck taco from Barque Smokehouse, or a duck scotch egg with English accompaniments from The Grove, followed by Byblos's Basturma & Cheese Acharuli and Fabbrica's Lamb Bolognese Crostini with Minted Ricotta Cheese. Richmond Station will serve their signature burger and Rose & Sons offers a classic BLT. For dessert try a Thai tea shake from Khao San Road and coconut tapioca pearls with passion fruit, lime and pineapple from Bosk.
Taste of Toronto offers unique opportunities to engage with the head chef from each of the participating restaurants while they work behind the grill at their tented pop-up venue and with various demonstrations and interactive cooking classes. Among the presentations on the Metro Master Class stage, Chef Elia Herrera of Los Colibris teaches how to make traditional ceviche ; Carl Heinrich, chef and owner of Richmond Station shares knife skills; and David Neinstein of Barque Smokehouse highlights tips and tricks for the best home barbecue.
In addition to the festival lineup of renowned chefs from the 17 participating restaurants, Taste of Toronto also spotlights a number of celebrity chefs, including Montreal chef and television personality Chuck Hughes, Franco Stalteri from Charlie's Burgers, and 50 local food producers in the vendor marketplace. The extensive weekend programming also includes historical cooking classes presented by Fort York and a live music stage curated by Arts & Crafts. A full programming schedule and timetable will be announced in the weeks leading up to the festival.

Admission tickets start from $30 and give access to the festival grounds and programming as well as $6 worth of 'crowns', the event currency.
