Steelworkers Humanity Fund Contributes $23,000 for South Sudan Refugees in Ethiopia

TORONTO, Sept. 25, 2014 /CNW/ - The Steelworkers Humanity Fund is contributing $23,000 to Oxfam Canada to support their work providing emergency water, sanitation and hygiene in South Sudanese refugee camps located in Ethiopia.

"Civil war in South Sudan has displaced 1.5 million in South Sudan, with hundreds of thousands fleeing to Ethiopia", said Ken Neumann, President of the Steelworkers Humanity Fund.

"The refugee crisis in Ethiopia has not received as much media attention in Canada as other international emergencies, but the needs are real and we are pleased to be able to provide urgently required assistance from the Steelworkers Humanity Fund."

Founded in 1985, the Steelworkers Humanity Fund is a registered charitable organization which focuses primarily on development projects and emergency aid in developing countries, but also supports Canadian communities in crisis. United Steelworkers (USW) members contribute to the fund through clauses negotiated into collective agreements. In some cases employers make matching contributions.
