Statement on Vandalism at Yad Vashem

TORONTO, June 11, 2012 /CNW/ - Today, Yad Vashem, the Jerusalem-based centre for Holocaust commemoration and research, was vandalized. In response, David Koschitzky, Chair of the Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs, issued the following statement:

"The acts of vandalism that targeted the National Holocaust Memorial at Yad Vashem represent a double offence: first against the victims of the Shoah - both those who perished as well as those who survived. But it is also an affront to the Jewish people and the Jewish state. Only those whose views cannot be sustained or defended in the light of day could descend to so cowardly an act as defacing a monument that has become synonymous with the imperative to bear witness and remember the Holocaust."

The Centre for Israel and Jewish Affairs is a non-partisan organization that serves as the Canadian Jewish community's official spokesperson to government and media.
