Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Death of Jake Eberts

OTTAWA, Sept. 10, 2012 /CNW/ - It was with great sadness that I learned of the death of Jake Eberts.

Internationally known for his many Oscar-winning films, Mr. Eberts produced or financed more than 50 films, including Gandhi, Driving Miss Daisy, Dances with Wolves, City of Joy and Grey Owl.

Mr. Eberts was born in Montréal and grew up in Arvida, Saguenay. He studied engineering at Bishop's University and at McGill University before becoming involved in the film industry. He was an Officer of the Order of Canada and Chair of National Geographic Feature Films.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I offer my condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Jake Eberts.
