Stability in the Hospital Sector Goal of Four-year Pact

TORONTO, Nov. 18, 2013 /CNW/ - The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) and the Ontario Hospital Association (OHA) have ratified a new, four-year collective agreement. The agreement covers approximately 24,000 health care professionals working in 55 Ontario hospitals.

Key features of the collective agreement include:

•     Four year duration
•     0.7 percent annual wage increases to employees' base compensation
•     One time recurring lump sum payments of 0.7 percent in each of the four years

"This collective agreement is a significant achievement for the health care professionals that CUPE represents, and for Ontario's hospitals," said Michael Hurley, President of CUPE's Ontario Council of Hospital Unions. "It sets a new and balanced pattern, which recognizes the funding challenges of Ontario's hospitals."

"We believe that this renewal collective agreement is both prudent and fair in today's economic circumstances," said OHA Interim President and CEO Anthony Dale. "It also provides hospitals with greater stability over a period of significant change and uncertainty."

The parties reached tentative agreement on September 29, 2013.  The ratification period closed on November 15, 2013.
