OTTAWA, June 4, 2013 /CNW/ - The achievements of four extraordinary leaders will be recognized on October 16, 2013 in Regina at the Public Policy Forum's fourth annual Western Dinner. This year's honorees are:

  • The Hon. Gordon Barnhart, former Lieutenant Governor of Saskatchewan
  • Bonnie DuPont, Chair, University of Calgary Board of Governors
  • George Lafond, Treaty Commissioner for Saskatchewan
  • Harold MacKay, Senior Partner, MacPherson Leslie & Tyerman LLP

"These four remarkable individuals have made lasting contributions to public life in Western Canada," said Forum President and CEO David Mitchell. "We are delighted to pay tribute to their work, their leadership, and the generosity they have shown to their communities and their country."

Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall is scheduled to attend and deliver welcoming remarks.

"The Public Policy Forum is pleased to hold our Western Dinner in Saskatchewan, birthplace of Medicare and Canada's earliest bill of rights," added Forum Board Chair Larry Murray. "With a young population and a dynamic, innovative economy, Saskatchewan is leading the way in many areas. Our four honorees exemplify that progressive, pioneering spirit."

Each of the honourees will receive the Peter Lougheed Award for Leadership in Public Policy, named for the late Premier of Alberta.

Since 1987, the Forum has recognized leaders who have helped advance public policy and good governance in Canada.
