TORONTO, June 2, 2012 /CNW/ - Toronto Hydro crews have made progress in
restoring power to many customers that were affected by power outages
as a result of severe storms Friday. As of 12 pm today, Toronto Hydro
reports an estimated 1,300 customers remain without power - at its
highest point, an estimated 15,000 customers were without power across
While progress is being made, customers should expect longer than usual
restoration times, and if possible make alternate plans for the day and
into the evening. Depending on their location and the amount of damage
to the system some customers may be without power until late this
evening. Residents should check on neighbours, particularly those
that may need assistance such as the elderly.
Crews will focus on public safety and restoring the greatest number of
customers first, and then the smaller more localized outages next.
Toronto Hydro experienced heavy damage to its grid. At least 64 main
power feeder lines (serving approximately 450-1500 customers) and
hundreds of secondary service lines (power lines servicing individual
homes or businesses) were brought down by the storm.
Toronto Hydro reminds all customers and residents to exercise caution
around downed electrical wires and in areas of the City that are
densely populated by large trees. At this point in the restoration
effort, Toronto Hydro asks that customers do not continue to call to
report power outages, only wires down.
