Organ Concerts in the Chapel - Take a Musical Lunchtime Break

MONTREAL, Aug. 27, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - On Wednesdays in September and October this year, the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel will resonate to the sound of melodies played on its hundred-year-old Casavant organ. At lunchtime, music lovers, passersby and downtown workers are invited to enjoy a musical break. They'll be able to hear 17th- and 18th-century pieces performed by the Chapel's organist, Benoît Marineau, in the Organ Concerts in the Chapel event.

The organ, built by Casavant Frères in 1910 (op. 401), was restored from 1999 to 2002 by the Guilbault-Thérien firm. It is a two-manual and pedal instrument with 15 stops (17 ranks, 817 pipes). It has six general combinations and an eight-level electronic combination action, and tutti, plein jeu, crescendo and expression pedals. The case is of oak and the front pipes are of painted metal.
