TORONTO, Jan. 23, 2012 /CNW/ - The January 30 deadline (5:00 p.m. EST) for the The Canadian Journalism Foundation Lifetime Achievement Award is only a week away. Submit an online nomination for an individual who has made an outstanding lifetime
contribution to journalism in Canada.
The recipient will have demonstrated, throughout his/her career, a
commitment to the highest journalistic standards and ideals. His/her
work and contribution to the field and society should serve as a model
that inspires excellence in others. The winner will be selected by a
jury and presented at the 15th Annual Awards Gala at The Fairmont Royal York on June 7, 2012.
Last year's winner was longtime CBC foreign correspondent Patrick Brown,
whose work has earned him three Gemini awards.
"When I was told that I was nominated for the CJF Lifetime Achievement
Award, I was unaware of the magnitude of the compliment I was being
paid until I glanced at the list of previous winners," said Brown, now
Asia correspondent for Global National. "Although I wasn't sure I
belonged in such distinguished company, I was certain that there is no
greater honour for a Canadian journalist than this."
Reporting for CBC and its French-language network SRC in both of
Canada's official languages, Brown has covered major events in dozens
of countries in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.
"I have always been in awe of Patrick for his brilliance and
professionalism as a journalist," said Tony Burman, the Velma Rogers
Graham Research Chair at Ryerson University and former managing
director of Al Jazeera. "As a colleague, I learned so much from him in
the field. And I know that many Canadians learned about the world from
him through his work."
Among the items to be considered are: body of journalistic work during
career; contribution to society through outstanding journalism;
contribution to the professional development of journalists;
contribution to the professional development of fellow journalists; and
recognition and respect from peers and community.
