TORONTO, March 8, 2013 /CNW/ - Hamilton resident, Gayle Zolaturiuk, has always believed that you only need to buy one lottery ticket to win. As it turns out, her one ticket for the March 2, 2013 LOTTO 6/49 draw was the golden ticket for the $30 million jackpot.
"Each week I only play one Quick Pick and one ENCORE. I always said that you just need one ticket! But I was still in disbelief when I checked my ticket and discovered that I was the winner of the big jackpot," said Zolaturiuk.
The life-long Hamiltonian says she was at home when she discovered that her life was about to change.
"I checked the numbers online and my heart started racing. I just couldn't believe it. I kept looking at it again and again to make sure I was really seeing what I was seeing," she explained. "I called OLG to find out what to do and then went to my local store to validate the ticket. I tried to stay calm throughout this process though."
Zolaturiuk recently adopted a stray black cat, and she chalks up her luck to her new lucky charm.
"It's just ironic that only a few weeks after this cat came into my life I win the lottery!" she laughed.
She said that this win comes at a perfect time in her life, and she has already celebrated by going on a mini-shopping spree.
"It was such a great feeling to hit the shops and get some new things for myself," she explained.
Zolaturiuk, in her early-50s, says her priorities will be taking care of her family, going on a much-needed vacation for a few weeks and then shopping around for a new home.
The winning ticket was purchased at Big Bear Food Mart on Limeridge Road in Hamilton.
