More than 1,500 Delegates heading to 2014 AMO Conference in London

TORONTO, Aug. 11, 2014 /CNW/ - More than 1,500 participants from hundreds of municipalities and other bodies across Ontario will participate in the Association of Municipalities of Ontario's 2014 AMO Conference, August 17 to 20 at the London Convention Centre, 300 York Street, in London.

The Annual AMO Conference is Ontario's foremost educational forum for municipal governments. In total, the program features close to 50 plenary and workshop sessions, and more than 60 speakers, reflecting the broad scope of municipal responsibilities. Keynote presenters include:

  • Hon. Kathleen Wynne, Premier of Ontario
  • Hon. Ted McMeekin, Ontario's Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing
  • Representatives from Ontario's two opposition parties
  • Nik Nanos, President & CEO of Nanos Research, and one of Canada's most trusted pollsters
  • Amanda Lang, senior business correspondent for CBC News
  • David Phillips of Environment Canada
  • Dr. Gregory Wells, health and high performance expert and Assistant Professor in Kinesiology and Physical Education at the University of Toronto
  • Matthew Mendelsohn, founder of the Mowat Centre, an independent public policy think tank at the University of Toronto

Ontario's recently elected majority government is poised to introduce significant legislative and financial changes that affect Ontario's 444 municipal governments and the communities they serve. It has tabled a budget that is impacting everyone, including municipal governments. All governments are seeking to provide quality service at reasonable costs. Cooperation between Ontario's provincial and municipal governments is essential to the success of our province. Key topics of discussion will include policing and emergency services, waste management policy and energy planning, infrastructure investment and management, railways and pipelines, pension plans, and the impacts of changing weather patterns.
