Mayors United to Protect Green Space

SAINT-BRUNO-DE-MONTARVILLE, QC, Sept. 30,  2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Taken into account the challenges and goals of the Plan métropolitain d'aménagement et de développement (PMAD) on the initiative of Georges Bourelle, Mayor of Beaconsfield and Martin Murray, Mayor of Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, an initial meeting of the mayors of the greater Montreal area took place last week.

The participating cities, Beaconsfield, Boucherville, Brossard, Laval, Léry, Longueuil, Rosemère, Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville and Varennes, have agreed to quickly create a round table to be followed by a technical committee chaired by the directors general of the cities. Sharing of expertise, resources and coordinated actions will prove invaluable as they address similar situations. The mayors are demanding support and tools from the provincial and federal governments.

This round table will coordinate the efforts of cities challenged by issues related to the rapid development of northern and southern suburbs, and will examine cooperative efforts to protect the environment. Wishing to contribute to the protection and enhancement of natural areas identified by the Montreal Metropolitan Community (MMC) and the PMAD, participating mayors encourage wise development which will promote conditions favorable to the conservation of biodiversity as well as green space and agricultural land.
