Let justice system run its course in paramedic case: OPSEU

HAMILTON, ON, Dec. 6, 2013 /CNW/ - The union that represents a Hamilton paramedic charged with violating the Ambulance Act says the public should allow the justice system to perform its job before weighing in with ill-informed speculation and misguided judgment.

"This case is still before the courts and that presumes innocence," said Mario Posteraro, president of Local 256 of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union which represents paramedics in Hamilton and area.

"The judicial system is moving forward, our member is being represented by excellent legal counsel and a final resolution to the case is still many months away. All I can ask is that the public and the media respect the rights and privacy of our member."

The case is scheduled to resume on May 27, 2014.

Posteraro said OPSEU will offer no further comment on the case at this time.
