Laptops May Do More Harm than Good in the Classroom, according to new research.

PRINCETON, NJ, Sept. 1, 2014 /CNW/ - If you want your child to do better in school you might consider taking away their laptop.

A series of studies from Princeton University and the University of California found that students retain less information taking lecture notes on laptops, rather than by hand.

"Laptops lead to mindless transcription and worse performance. Handwriting consistently leads to better memory encoding," says Pam Mueller, the lead author.

In the ongoing debate about laptops in the classroom, some professors have called for "kill switches" to disable WiFi during lectures. However, the problem isn't only distracted students on the internet, according to the studies.

"The act of writing makes students process information more deeply," says Mueller.
