Junior Achievement launches new national technology award for Canadian students

TELUS Junior Technology Award builds on strong foundation of awarding student success

TORONTO, Feb. 29, 2012 /CNW/ - Junior Achievement of Canada announced today a new national award opportunity for Canadian youth.  The TELUS Junior Technology Award recognizes students' knowledge and understanding of technology and rewards the best applications developed by Junior Achievement achievers.  Four winners will be chosen each year and will be awarded with a scholarship to attend Junior Achievement's Next Generation Leaders conference.

"As the technology field continues to expand and grow, Junior Achievement of Canada recognizes the importance and significance of keeping up with the latest technology," said Stephen Ashworth, President and CEO, Junior Achievement of Canada.  "With the support of TELUS, we are pleased to offer this new award to further advance young people's understanding of the role technology plays in our ever-changing world."

"TELUS' gift will help build the next generation of entrepreneurial spirit and leadership in business," said Jim Senko, vice-president of Small and Medium Business Marketing at TELUS. "We are extremely pleased to continue the TELUS tradition of giving where we live by supporting this new award that will help inspire and prepare our new generation of leaders."

For more than 55 years, as the largest education organization in Canada, Junior Achievement has inspired and prepared more than 3.9 million youth to succeed.  Junior Achievement is a key link between education and business, and provides youth with the essential skills they need to define personal success, prepare for the workforce, ensure strong money management and pursue their dreams.  Last year alone, more than 216,000 young Canadians experienced a Junior Achievement program from 13,029 committed business mentors. Each year, Junior Achievement bestows more than $500,000 in awards and scholarships to Canadian youth.
