SAULT STE. MARIE, ON, Sept. 22, 2014 /CNW/ - Ward 6 Councillor Joe
Krmpotich today announced a year-long buildup to a labour-sponsored
event that will involve all businesses and citizens of Sault Ste. Marie
and surrounding communities.
"Today I am proud to announce my personal support and involvement in
next summer's United Steelworkers' Ontario/Atlantic Conference," said
Krmpotich, who is also the Conference Organizing Chair. "Activities are
being developed that will give all businesses and citizens of Sault
Ste. Marie and surrounding areas opportunities to participate.
"It will be the first time in the union's 78-year history that Sault
Ste. Marie has been chosen as the venue for a conference that will

USW Ontario/Atlantic Director Marty Warren says he can't wait to hold a
conference that celebrates the union's diversity and Sault Ste. Marie's
unique history of steelmaking and union-building.
"We want to celebrate and educate," said Warren. "Many of our Atlantic
Canada members will be experiencing something brand new in Sault Ste.
Marie. And we hope the events we are planning will become great
memories for folks in Sault Ste. Marie, who are invited to participate
for the whole week."
USW Area Coordinator Jack Ostroski said news of confirmed events will be
rolled out over the next 11 months.
"We are organizing for something memorable and we are going to approach
local businesses and organizations for their support," said Ostroski.
"The week of August 16-21 will be all about community and working
people. We are not about creating division. We are about building
something better - together."
The United Steelworkers, which has represented workers in Sault Ste.
Marie since the union was certified at Algoma Steel in 1936, represents
more than 225,000 men and women working in every sector of Canada's
