Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), Dr. Kellie Leitch, Parliamentary
Secretary to the Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and
to the Minister of Labour, and Member of Parliament (Simcoe-Grey),
today announced the Government of Canada's contribution to the LG
Snowboard FIS World Cup at Blue Mountain.
"Our Government is proud to support our athletes and coaches with this
contribution to the LG Snowboard FIS World Cup," said Minister of State
Gosal. "Since its debut as an Olympic event at the 2006 Winter Games in
Turin, Italy, the growth of snowboard cross in Canada is truly
impressive—a testament to the value of investing in our athletes."
"On behalf of the Government of Canada, I am pleased to welcome athletes
from Canada and other countries to the beautiful Niagara Escarpment,"

showcasing Collingwood to the world! Events like this bring an economic
boost to the region and demonstrate the hospitality of the community."
The Government of Canada is the single largest contributor to sport in
Canada and supports participation and excellence from the playground to
the podium. A contribution of $50,000 was provided to the Canadian
Snowboard Federation through Sport Canada's Hosting Program. The Government of Canada also committed $2,389,318 to the Canadian
Snowboard Federation in 2011-2012 through the Sport Support Program.
