TERRACE, BC, May 30, 2013 /CNW/ - Richard M. Harris, Member of
Parliament for Cariboo—Prince George, on behalf of the Honourable Denis
Lebel, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, Minister
of the Economic Development Agency of Canada for the Regions of Quebec,
and Minister of Intergovernmental Affairs, today announced funding for an important safety improvement project at
the Northwest Regional Airport Terrace-Kitimat.
The Northwest Regional Airport Terrace-Kitimat is receiving $26,313 through the Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP), to purchase an
electronic runway condition reporting system. This new system will
provide timely, accurate and precise wireless reporting and recording
of runway conditions.
"The Northwest Regional Airport Terrace-Kitimat is a vital gateway for
local residents, businesses, trade and tourism," said MP Harris. "This
funding will enhance the safety of all those who use this airport,
especially the communities and businesses in Northern British

To date, through ACAP, the Northwest Regional Airport Terrace-Kitimat
has received more than $7.5 million for 14 projects, including today's
announcement. Since the program started, the Government of Canada has
invested more than $606 million for 749 projects at 174 airports.
Improvements include purchasing/replacing heavy airside mobile
equipment; installing wildlife fencing; and rehabilitating runway
pavements, airfield lighting and electrical systems.
Canada's Economic Action Plan provides new opportunities for growth, job
creation and long-term prosperity. Thanks to the Government of
Canada's leadership and our strong economic and financial fundamentals,
the Canadian economy has recovered from the global recession better
than most other industrialized countries. Canada has been a leader
among G-7 countries throughout the recovery with more than 910,000 net
new jobs created since July 2009.
