FM 98.5 CKWR to receive Fire Safety Award
TORONTO, June 19, 2012 /CNW/ - FM 98.5 CKWR will receive a Fire Safety Award from the Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council at a ceremony on June 26, 2012 in Toronto for its programs Community Access and KW Magazine. The annual Fire Safety Awards recognize outstanding contributions to fire protection and prevention in Ontario.
FM 98.5 CKWR is an independent radio station serving the Waterloo area. For the past two years, the station has aired public service announcements (PSAs) provided by Waterloo Fire Rescue, in support of the department's public education efforts.
In addition to the PSAs, Waterloo Fire Rescue's public education officer has participated on Community Access with Jeremy Smith and KW Magazine with John Maciel a number of times. The interviews have provided the public with valuable fire safety information related to Fire Prevention Week, the holiday season, Halloween, other major events and emergency response incidents throughout the year. This is particularly important because of the short period of time in which the public's attention is keenly focused on an event or incident.
"FM 98.5 CKWR recognizes that the role of community radio goes far beyond entertainment," said Ted Wieclawek, Ontario Fire Marshal. "By contributing airtime to broadcast PSAs and providing Waterloo Fire Rescue with the opportunity to discuss fire safety issues, FM 98.5 CKWR has clearly demonstrated their commitment to the well-being of their community."
The Fire Marshal's Public Fire Safety Council gratefully acknowledges the support of its sponsors in this event: Technical Standards and Safety Authority, The Co-operators Group, Kidde Canada Inc., Home Depot of Canada Inc., Proctor & Gamble Inc., Domino's Pizza of Canada, Electrical Safety Authority, Canadian Standards Association Group and Enbridge Gas Distribution.
