Échec au crime partners with Canadian Tire to Offer a Reward of Up to $2000 to Help Find Benoît Huot's Stolen Medals

MONTREAL, Aug. 6, 2014 /CNW/ - Échec au crime in cooperation with Canadian Tire is offering a reward of up to $2000 for the return, or information that leads to the return of medals stolen from the home of Paralympic swimming champion Benoît Huot.

Sometime between the night of July 26 and the early morning hours of July 27, 2014, suspects broke into Benoît Huot's St-Lambert home and stole seven Paralympic medals:

  • 3 medals from the 2007 Pacific Parapan Games
  • 1 bronze medal from the 2008 Paralympic Games in Beijing
  • 1 bronze medal from the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester
  • 1 gold medal from the 2000 Paralympic Games in Sydney
  • 1 gold medal from the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi

"We are proud to support Benoît Huot as a Paralympic athlete. He inspires people in Quebec and across Canada with his passion and focus. We want to help him get back his medals which he earned for his athletic excellence, hard work and perseverance," said Jean Parisien, vice-president, Quebec region, Canadian Tire Corporation. "We are shocked and saddened by this theft," he added.

Canadian Tire, Échec au crime and the Longueuil police department are asking for the public's help to identify and locate suspects, as well as to help find the seven missing medals. Échec au crime in cooperation with Canadian Tire will offer a reward of up to $2000.

Anyone with information that could help identify the suspects or find the stolen items is asked to contact the confidential Échec au crime service immediately at 1-800-711-1800.

In August 2013, Benoît Huot joined the select group of Olympic and Paralympic athletes supported by the Canadian Tire Family of Companies and he became an ambassador for Jumpstart, which helps children in financial need participate in sports and recreational activities.

Recognizing that sport enriches family life and helps build communities, the Canadian Tire Family of Companies supports amateur athletes and active families from playground to podium.
