CALGARY, May 20, 2014 /CNW/ - Do men in Calgary care about giving back to the community? 100+ will show up at the Danish Canadian Club on June 10, 2014 to show that they do.
"100 Men Who Give a Damn" is a brand new organization which brings Calgary men together four times a year to each give $100, all of which goes to a local charity. Over a year, that adds up to $40,000, and the organization is 100% volunteer, and 100% of the money goes to a charity which the men vote on.
"This is a really good format where you are able to contribute a small amount that makes a big difference," says Oliver Baezner, co-founder with Alex Putici, of "100 Men Who Give A Damn". Baezner, a business coach and owner of Sonic Breakthrough Coaching, knows how busy men are, and sees this organization as a way for men to give directly to the community with a small time and financial commitment, 4 hours and $400 over a year.
Inspired by a conversation with Alison Lapczuk who started "100 Women Who Care Calgary," Baezner decided to find out if a similar approach to charitable giving exists for men. He learned that there is a "100 Men Who Give a Damn" in Halifax, and he decided to start one here in Calgary.
"I get excited about this initiative because it is a great way to get a bunch of guys together who give a damn to have an impact in their community," says Baezner. "There is a connection that comes from that, a common bond."
While there are thousands of charities in Calgary to support, the members of "100 Men Who Give A Damn" will nominate their favourite charity to receive the funds prior to each of their four annual events. The founders will narrow the choice down to three candidates, and the group will vote on the winner at their one hour meetings.
"100 Men Who Give A Damn" will have its first meeting June 10, 2014 at the Danish Canadian Club, 727-11th Avenue SW, at 6:30 pm. Registration is at 6:00 pm.
