Daily Bread's annual report on hunger in the GTA released today

TORONTO, Sept. 25, 2014 /CNW/ -

WHAT:

Daily Bread Food bank is launching its annual Thanksgiving Drive with a new report on hunger in the GTA that shows more people receiving Ontario Disability Support are turning to food banks.




Richard Matern, author of the Who's Hungry report, will share more results from the report about the factors that drive people to food banks, how people are managing and what solutions there are to the problem of hunger.




Daily Bread's executive director, Gail Nyberg, will also be on hand to talk about the Thanksgiving Drive, which runs until October 18 with goals of $300,000 and 200,000 pounds of food.




Andrew Majik will speak about his personal experiences on the Ontario Disability Support Program. In addition to using a food bank himself, Andrew volunteers with Daily Bread's Information and Referral Services program, helping connect other food bank clients to community resources.

9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. – Daily Bread truck arrives at Allan Gardens Food Bank. Volunteers will be on hand to unload truck and set up food bank.


10:00 am. – Media conference begins
