Centre Wellington Fire Chief Comments on Firefighter Benefit Package
FERGUS, ON, Feb. 14, 2012 /CNW/ - The Township of Centre Wellington Fire & Rescue Department is currently before the courts regarding a language dispute in the working agreement between the Township of Centre Wellington and the Elora Firefighters Association. This dispute relates to insurance provided for our volunteer firefighters.
All of our volunteer firefighters are provided with a "$150,000.00 Benefit Package" which includes: life, accidental death and health insurance coverage as stated in the policy. In the case in question, it is the insurer, not the Township, who has denied the claim made based on details of the policy.
On behalf of all members of the Fire & Rescue Service, I can assure you we are all committed to the delivery of emergency services to our community and we will continue to provide the same level of professional service we always have.
I remain proud of our firefighters and their dedication to the public's safety and look forward to resolving this issue as quickly as possible.
