Firm also named one of Canada's Top Employers for Young People
TORONTO, May 7, 2014 /CNW/ - EY's leading people culture has helped the professional services firm score top points with Canadian university and college students, and young people overall. This week, Universum's Canadian Student Survey ranked EY the #1 employer for accounting, and #2 for business, after only Google. Meanwhile, a separate competition named the firm one of Canada's Top Employers for Young People.
"We're honoured, and very proud to be recognized on campus as an employer of choice, and as a great firm for young people," says Stephen Shea, EY's Managing Partner, Talent, in Canada. "At EY, everything we do centres on our purpose, which is 'building a better working world.' Helping young people build experience and their careers is a big part of that."
EY officially adopted "building a better working world" as both the firm's purpose and tagline in 2013. But Shea says the philosophy has always been part of the firm's values.
"We believe everything we do contributes to building a better working world – from delivering client work, to supporting entrepreneurship, to reducing our impact on the environment or creating an inclusive workplace," explains Shea. "But formalizing that into a global purpose gives our commitment to these values new wings, and empowers us in big ways."
Celebrating its 150th anniversary in Canada this year, EY has fostered a culture that attracts and retains outstanding people and helps them thrive. Built on an apprenticeship model, the firm offers a wealth of continuing education, training and mentoring programs to help the next generation expand their resumes and grow their careers through engaging and relevant experiences.
"EY aspires to have a leading people culture everywhere in the world," says Shea. "Our people have been – and always will be – our most important asset. Recognition like this tells us we're on the right path, resonating with the generations that will lead us forward."
