CALGARY, Sept. 7, 2012 /CNW/ - The World Conference on Breast Cancer Foundation is pleased to announce that the 7th World Conference on Breast Cancer will be hosted by the City of Calgary in June 2014. Dedicated to global action on breast cancer by creating a safe forum, the Conference provides the opportunity to examine issues in all their variety and complexity, giving equal voice to the breast cancer survivor, the clinician, the scientist, and the advocate. More than 650 delegates are expected to attend
Following on the heels of the very successful 6th World Conference on Breast Cancer - which took place in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada in June 2011 - the 7th World Conference will seek to create a safe place where women of the world can share their breast cancer experiences, be understood, cared for, and supported. Previously Conferences have been hosted by Kingston, Ottawa, Hamilton; Ontario; Victoria, BC; Halifax, Nova Scotia and Winnipeg, Manitoba.
The World Conference on Breast Cancer is held every three years and attracts survivor groups, family members, friends, service providers, community organizations, volunteers, public educators, advocates, researchers, scientists and health care professionals.
"The Conference provides a forum for international knowledge to be shared and enriched from a number of perspectives that in turn broaden expertise, deepen sensitivity and respect, and accelerate progress in confronting breast cancer," said Rhoda MacCormick, World Breast Cancer Organization Interim President. "The excitement is building in the hearts of each of our board members and volunteers as we begin plans to establish partnerships and alliances with local health care providers, stake holders and community advocates for this event that will see women and men from around the world converge in Calgary, Alberta"
Scotiabank is the official bank and premier sponsor of the World Conference on Breast Cancer.
"Scotiabank is once again delighted to be the premier sponsor of the World Conference on Breast Cancer," said Sylvia Chrominska, Group Head of Global Human Resources and Communications at Scotiabank. "We support the Conference through our global philanthropic program, Bright Future, because it is important to our employees and customers, in Canada and around the world. It provides a unique forum for men and women to share stories and strategies, network and learn from each other, and address the major issues we all face in the fight against breast cancer."
The World Breast Cancer Organization is an incorporated organization, registered in Canada, dedicated to international and multi-disciplinary, global action on breast cancer. One of the organization's objectives is to organize and host a World Conference every three years. Another objective is to continue further development, between conferences, of our International Support Links (ISL) project. This project provides opportunities to create links for advocacy training and education between teams of Canadians active in the breast cancer community and teams of delegates from developing countries and/or countries in transition.
