Communications support and $25,000 donation to Red Cross for disaster
MONTREAL, July 7, 2013 /CNW Telbec/ - With support for the Red Cross and
on-site communications, Bell is assisting the people of Lac˗Mégantic
following the train disaster of early Saturday:
Bell has donated $25,000 to support Red Cross relief efforts in
Lac-Mégantic, which is about 200 kilometres east of Montréal. All
mobile phone users across Canada can also donate $5 to the Red Cross to
support relief efforts by texting ROUGE or REDCROSS to 30333.
The Red Cross has deployed a 16-metre (53-foot) emergency response
trailer previously donated by Bell. The vehicle has already transported
supplies including beds, pillows and blankets to support an emergency
shelter for displaced residents.
To keep emergency workers and residents connected, Bell has donated
mobile phones, landlines, Wi-Fi and free payphone service for the
