WENDAKE, QC, July 3, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - "After generations of
illegitimate occupation and exploitation of the Atikamekw territory,
and more than thirty years of fruitless negotiations, the least Jean
Charest could do is to meet with them at the earliest possible date and
come to an agreement with them. He at least owes them that, and he
knows it full well."
The Chief of the AFNQL, Ghislain Picard, is asking the Quebec Premier to
personally intervene in a territorial conflict that has already gone on
"The Atikamekw Nation has always been peaceful and respectful of
everyone's prerogatives. It is now the turn of the Atikamekw Nation to
command respect. The foremost mark of respect to be demonstrated by the
leader of the Quebec government would be to meet immediately with the
Atikamekw leaders and listen carefully to what they have to say. This
cannot wait any longer", added the Chief of the AFNQL.
"The Atikamekw Nation, quite legitimately, wishes to establish and
develop a nation-to-nation relationship with the Quebeckers. That
demand can only be responded to by one person, and it is Jean Charest",
concluded Ghislain Picard.
