MONTREAL, Oct. 4, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The Beckerath organ of Saint Joseph's Oratory has been rejuvenated, meaning that, since August 29, 2011, the instrument went unheard but finally, the artisans of the workshop, Juget Sinclair who labored about a year, have finished restoring its brilliant sonorities. To applaud the accomplishment of this major restoration, the administration of Saint Joseph's Oratory is pleased to invite pilgrims, visitors, and all music lovers to two inaugural concerts.
To begin the festivities, we will be privileged to welcome Frédéric Champion on Sunday, October 7, 2012 at 4 PM in the Basilica. Mr. Champion is a renowned organist and First Ambassador of the Concours international d'orgue du Canada. He will be playing what he calls "The Greatest…", Robin, Cabanilles, Liszt, Bruhns, Florentz, Saint-Saëns, Debussy and Bach.
The following Sunday, October 14, 2012, at 4 PM, the Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal, under the direction of Gilbert Patenaude, will perform the Messe solennelle of Louis Vierne, accompanied by the father-son duo Jacques and Vincent Boucher. The two organists will be battling back and forth, one on the Basilica`s choir organ, and the other on the Beckerath grand organ. In addition, the Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal will be singing pieces a cappella for the first half of the program.
