Webstoppers Launches Consumer Protection Watchlist

MISSISSAUGA, ON, March 28 /CNW/ - Webstoppers Watchlist enables consumers
to post, review and contribute to complaints involving complex cybercrime.
Webstoppers recently cracked its 500th case of Internet fraud reported online.
The reports consisted of almost twenty-three serious identity theft claims and
more than 300 website spoofing and hacking attempts. Additionally, Webstoppers
received a number of child pornography complaints and over 150 unique
fraudulent emails requesting personal identifiable information.
Every complaint received by Webstoppers began with a consumer tip. The
launch of the Watchlist will take the tipster service to a new height, as the
consumers can now assist and initiate the investigations. The Watchlist data
will be provided by and available to the public online and each tip will be
verified and investigated by Webstoppers.
Canada's fraud prevention month successfully heightened consumer
awareness relating to internet fraud and cybercrime. Webstoppers aims to
continue the trend. Navigate to www.stop.webstoppers.ca before trusting the
next website you visit.
