Media Advisory - FCM delegates to vote on trade and procurement resolution at 72nd Annual Conference and Municipal Expo(TM) - Minister of International Cooperation to address FCM delegates

    WHISTLER, BC, June 6 /CNW Telbec/ - Delegates at day two of the
Federation of Canadian Municipalities' (FCM) 72nd Annual Conference and
Municipal ExpoTM will vote on resolutions submitted by various members,
including a resolution concerning municipal procurement and international
trade tabled by the Municipality of Halton Hills, Ont.
    The resolutions plenary vote will begin at 8:00 a.m. in the Sea to Sky
Ballroom of the TELUS Whistler Conference Centre (TWCC).
    Immediately following the plenary, at 9:30 a.m., FCM President Jean
Perrault, Mayor of Sherbrooke, Que., and the sponsors of the resolution will
be available to take questions from the media in the Wedgemount Room of the
TWCC and via teleconference (details below).
    Throughout the day, delegates will attend FCM's standing committee policy
forums to discuss policy direction and priorities for the coming year related
to the following key issues:

      -  From 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.: Environmental Issues and Sustainable
         Development; Municipal Finance and Intergovernmental Arrangements;
         Social-Economic Development;
      -  From 2:15 to 3:15 p.m.: Municipal Infrastructure and Transportation
         Policy; Community Safety and Crime Prevention; International
         Relations; and
      -  From 3:30 to 4:30 p.m.: Rural, Increasing Women's Participation in
         Municipal Government, and Northern and Remote.

resolutions plenary vote and all above mentioned sessions are open to media.
    The afternoon will feature a Media Panel, at which members of the media
will discuss the recession, the election and the cities and communities
agenda. The session is scheduled from 1:15 to 2:00 p.m., in the Sea to Sky
Ballroom of the TWCC. Panellists will include Frances Bula, a freelance
writer/blogger and contributor to the Globe and Mail, and Bruce Campion-Smith,
Ottawa Bureau Chief of the Toronto Star.
    The Honourable Beverley J. Oda, M.P., Minister of International
Cooperation, will address delegates at FCM's Standing Committee on
International Relations, at 2:15 p.m., and will be available to media at 4:15
p.m.
