While a delegation of Raelian Bishops are in Geneva in the offices of the UN, the Raelians of Canada will be in Ottawa !
MONTREAL, July 17 /CNW Telbec/ - July 17th 2009, a delegation of Raelian
Priests and Bishops, from Canada, France, Switzerland and Belgium, will be
meeting with Mrs Asma Jahangir, Special Rapporteur of the United Nations on
Religious Freedom and Conviction, in the offices of the UN to deposit a second
file of complaints. At the same time, here in Canada, Raelians will
demonstrate in front of the Parliament in Ottawa.
In June 2004, Mrs Jahangir welcomed a group of Raelian Priests and
Bishops and became aware of the voluminous file of complaints; she was
surprised to hear of the discrimination suffered by Raelians in countries of
French Europe and in Canada (particularly in Quebec). Mrs Jahangir wished to
be informed of new cases of discrimination. Since the situation did not
improve, she judges pertinent to meet with the Raelians once more.
Last year, the file of complaints deposited at the UN was distributed to
all senators, deputies and ministers, provincial and federal, not forgetting
Prime Ministers Mr Charest and Mr Harper, as well as Mrs Michaelle Jean. None
of them moved a finger in front of the obvious religious discrimination making
victims of many Quebec Raelians.
Mr Marc Rivard, Bishop and President of the Canadian Raelian Movement
declared: "Governments don't seem to understand the magnitude of the
discrimination suffered by Quebec Raelians. Again this year, the file of
complaints deposited at the UN will be put in front of the political world.
Furthermore, we will be many in front of the Ottawa Parliament to underline
our discontent towards this silence. The situation is unacceptable. The
Federal Government must take his responsibilities and ensure the protection of
the rights and liberties of Quebec Raelians."
The gathering will take place, Friday July 17th, at 10:15am, in front of
the French Embassy and then, Raelians will march up to the Parliament to be
there at noon.
