World's Leaders enjoy Nutella as part of a balanced breakfast at the G8 Summit
Take a cue from our leaders, and learn about a balanced breakfast with
the Better Breakfast Challenge
TORONTO, July 13 /CNW/ - Leaders from Canada, France, Germany, Japan,
Russia, the United Kingdom and the U.S. gathered in Italy for the G8 Summit
last week to discuss the global economic crisis, climate change, world
trade -- and what's for breakfast.
The official cook of the Italian national soccer team, Claudio Silvestri,
was in charge of breakfast and served a staple from Italians' breakfast tables
for nearly 65 years -- Nutella. The roasted hazelnut spread was offered in the
form of a balanced breakfast -- on bread accompanied by milk and fruit.
Fortified by this nutritious breakfast, the world's leaders were then ready to
tackle the globe's pressing issues through the rest of the day.
In Canada, Nutella has been offering education on the importance of a
healthy, balanced breakfast with the Better Breakfast Challenge, a national
public education and fundraising campaign that launched in May and runs
through until November. The Challenge has two goals: to encourage all Canadian
families to eat a healthy breakfast every day and to support the breakfast
programs of Breakfast for Learning.
"We know that eating breakfast gives our brain the fuel it needs to think
and learn," says Jodi Robinson, Toronto-based registered dietitian. "Studies
show that kids who eat breakfast achieve higher grades and overall, are more
alert and focused at school. The same is certainly true for adults too, making
it a smart idea to serve a balanced breakfast to our world's leaders last
week!"
Families can sign up at www.nutellabreakfastchallenge.com to take the
challenge to eat a healthy breakfast consistently for 21 days. For every
sign-up, Nutella donates one dollar to Breakfast for Learning.
