Rogers Wireless and Nokia change online music landscape with Rogers MusicStore and new Nokia handsets
TORONTO, Feb. 6 /CNW/ - Nokia and Rogers Wireless today launched the
enhanced Rogers MusicStore and two new mobile handsets equipped with the
Rogers Music Player to meet demand from Canadians who want their music on the
go.
With hundreds of thousands of tracks, the newly enhanced Rogers
MusicStore is unique on the market as it gives music fans the flexibility to
download tunes on the fly -to their wireless phone or online with their PC.
The Nokia 5300 XpressMusic and Nokia 6085 are the only mobile phones
available in Canada that are Windows Media DRM compatible. This means that
consumers have the ultimate in flexibility to access music - over the air from
the Rogers MusicStore or sideloading unprotected and Windows protected music
from a PC using a USB cable.
The two Nokia handsets, now available in North America for the first
time, meet a strong demand from the Canadian marketplace, according to a new
study conducted by Ipsos Camelford Graham on behalf of Nokia Canada. The
research found that just over half (52%) of Canadians will consider purchasing
a new mobile phone in the next two years that incorporates a music player.
According to the study, when it comes down to selecting a manufacturer for a
mobile phone that includes a camera or music player, not surprisingly an
overwhelming 90 per cent of consumers would most trust a company that
primarily manufactures mobile phones to manufacture the best quality device.
No one-hit wonder
With one in five (20%) Canadians owning a music-enabled mobile phone and
half indicating that they may purchase a music-enabled handset in the next two
years, there is significant potential for these devices. The Nokia 5300
XpressMusic is the perfect handset for people looking to take their music with
them and make a bold statement wherever they go.
Featuring a compact slide-form factor - press the slider up to extend the
phone and reveal the keypad, the handset can hold up to 50 albums or up to 500
tracks worth of music on a 1GB microSD card. Until April 30, customers can
take advantage of a free 1 GB microSD card by visiting
www.rogers.com/memorypromo. Thanks to dedicated volume control keys, consumers
can easily control the volume of their music while simultaneously enjoying
other functions such as texting, browsing or taking pictures.
The Nokia 5300 XpressMusic is no one-hit wonder - along with the music
player and radio, the handset also comes with the latest messaging functions
and a 1.3 megapixel camera. Incoming calls can be enhanced with video ring
tones on the high resolution display.
A classical piece
The Nokia 6085 emphasizes ease-of-use, up to date technology and classic
style to create a straightforward and feature packed fold-design handset.
Music, pictures, and videos can be stored and shared using the optional
hot-swappable microSD memory card. The Nokia 6085 features both the Rogers
Music Player, which is compatible with the online Rogers' MusicStore, and
Nokia's music player.
The Nokia 6085 is complemented by sophisticated detailing and a blue LED
cover display. The handset also features a highly readable, large colour
display with 262,000 colours.
"Canadian consumers are clearly asking for music enabled phones and we
are pleased to be working with Rogers Wireless to provide their customers with
the best voice and music experience across a range of our phones," said Paul
Chapple, General Manager, Nokia Canada.

Methodology
These are the findings of an Ipsos Camelford Graham /Nokia Canada study
conducted on behalf of Nokia Canada from January 11 to January 15, 2007. For
the survey, a representative, randomly selected sample of 1,093 adult
Canadians, who have agreed to participate in an online panel, completed an
online survey. With a sample of this size, the results are considered accurate
to within +/- 3.1 percentage points at a confidence interval of 95 per cent.
The margin of error will be larger within regions and for other sub-groupings
of the survey population.
