Accelerating Novel and Transformative Brain Research: Multi-Investigator Research Initiative (MIRI) Grant Recipients Announced Français
TORONTO, April 26, 2013 /CNW/ - Brain Canada, in collaboration with The W. Garfield Weston Foundation and support from the Government of Canada, is proud to announce the recipients of The W. Garfield Weston Foundation - Brain Canada Multi-Investigator Research Initiative (MIRI) grants.
The purpose of the MIRI grants is to accelerate novel and transformative research that will fundamentally change our understanding of nervous system function and dysfunction and their impact on health. The grants support excellent research, which may be higher-risk, but with the potential to be paradigm shifting, at any stage of the research process, from basic to clinical to health policy. The research may be conceptually ahead of its time, represent unorthodox alliances between disciplines, or feature novel ideas for which preliminary data is lacking.
The human brain has been described as the "last frontier" of medical research and one of the most challenging areas in medicine. By unlocking the secrets of the brain, we have the potential to change the lives of people living with neurological diseases and disorders, mental illnesses, addictions, brain and spinal cord injuries.
