Luminato Shines Brighter With $15-Million Boost

    McGuinty Government Invests In Arts and Culture to Strengthen Economy

    TORONTO, April 7 /CNW/ -

    Luminato, Ontario's largest art and cultural festival, is getting
$15 million from the province to promote future growth, adding to Toronto's
reputation as a world-class cultural centre.
    Luminato brings artists, innovators and tourists from all over the world
to Toronto. Last year, the festival attracted over one million visitors,
helping to pump millions of dollars into Toronto's economy. This year, the
government wants to make Luminato's second season even bigger and bolder.

    Its funding will help Luminato:
    -   Attract even more visitors to Toronto
    -   Raise Toronto's profile as a major cultural centre
    -   Book the best talent available.

    The Luminato Festival of Arts + Creativity 2008 runs from June 6-15 at
venues throughout downtown Toronto. It is poised to become one of the world's
top five arts festivals in the next five years.

McGuinty. "Luminato is an example of cultural innovation and innovation is
what helps drive Ontario's economy.
    "Luminato put arts and culture in the spotlight as a major economic
driver and raises the profile of our talented artists and creators," said
Culture Minister Aileen Carroll.

    QUICK FACTS

    -   In its first year, Luminato showcased the work of 1,700 Canadian
        artists and 150 international artists.
    -   The inaugural festival featured more than 100 events across Toronto.
        It contributed over $78 million to Ontario's economy.
